 | | | | | | | | GREAT BANG FOR THE BUCK - Scores 5/5
The DVD and VCR that this replaced (from 6-10 years old) cost four times as much and yet this is superior to them both. I can't beleive that some expected a DVD Recorder was included at this price...give it a few more years at least, however the descriptions for the v6800 do vary depending which site is visited. The VCR definately has 6 heads and not 4. The DVD can become multi-region with the hack descibed by others on Amazon. If like me your TV only accepts Progressive Scan in NTSC format the DVD player won't output a PAL disc in NTSC format. NTSC encoded disks work fine. I didn't have any issue with the remote either although the dubious unbranded batteries could have caused that issue. | REVIEW BY ANONYMOUS ON 11 AUGUST 2008 |
| | | | | | DECENT DVD PLAYER, TERRIBLE REMOTE CONTROL - Scores 2/5
This DVD player will play more or less any disc I try and the quality of the picture is fairly decent. The main problem with this DVD player is the remote control which will not work unless pointed directly at the player, I have the DVD player situated about 3 foot away from where I sit so theproblem is not the distance. I had a DVD/VCR combi for 4 years before I purchased this item to replace it and the remote with that would work from around 15 foot away and even if the remote was pointed at the wall. The description of the item also said Connectivity 1 x HDMI, the item does not have an HDMI port which was one of the reasons I bought the item. Overall it is a decent DVD player let down by the poor quality of the remote control. | REVIEW BY ANONYMOUS ON 08 AUGUST 2008 |
| | | | | | SEEMS FINE, AND THERE'S A MULTI REGION HACK - Scores 5/5
Easy setup, plays my videos, plays all my DVDs, no complaints. VHS picture looks a bit soft, but that's probably the best it can be. I have a thing for tacky 80's b-movies that never made it past the rental market, so they've all been well used!
Found this code on a forum for another player and it works, make sure you don't have a disk in.
1. Turn on player with no disc in the tray. "No disk" appears on screen. 2. Press the "Repeat" key on the remote. 3. Press "57538" on the remote. A number should appear on screen, indicating your player's current region (e.g. "2"). 4. Press the number for your required region (e.g. "1") or "9" for region-free/all-regions. The number will appear on screen, replacing the previous number (from step 3). 5. Press "Open/Close Tray" and leave the tray open for a few seconds. 6. Press "Power On/Off". The tray closes automatically and the player turns off. Next time you turn it on, it is region free (or whatever Region you selected in step 4). | REVIEW BY ANONYMOUS ON 24 JUNE 2008 |
| | | | | | MISDESCRIPTION OF PRODUCT - Scores 1/5
The product description quite clearly says "It records to both formats too". It does not. I ordered this product because it was advertised as being able to record to both formats and have now emailed Pixmania about the misdescription. Hopefully they will decide that it is not a technical problem that Samsung have to deal with but an error on their/Amazon's part when it comes to describing what the product does... there are laws about that sort of thing y'know. If, however, you want a product that records to vhs tape and plays vhs tape, it can do that. If you just want a dvd player, it can do that too. One of the other things I read about it was that it could tape the dvd's - tried that, and dvd/vhs says "no". I'll get my money back no doubt, but I want the postage too. | REVIEW BY ANONYMOUS ON 13 JUNE 2008 |
