I am a true audiophile, and sampling some movie material on my new YSP-500, I am nothing else but impressed. I am completely stunned by how it can manage to deliver true 5.1 from a single component. It's almost like you have real 5.1 speakers positioned in your room, the channel-separation was top-notch. It doesn't deliver the same strength like a true high end system, but comes really damn close. I use it together with a yamaha YST-FSW100 subwoofer. Watching "Dark Knight" on blu-ray via optical, using 5 BEAM was an outstanding experience, the chase sequence with the batpod, showed the YSP-500s talents to deliver both 5.1 sound and great dynamics. Also watching "Blade-Runner final cut" on blu-ray was absolutely astonishing. The street ambiance, soundeffects and the driving rain sounded highly impressive, hearing it behind me. The soundprojector also did a good job delivering music listening thanks to STEREO MODE, sounding fairly clear and great. I have heard all of the soundprojectors, though I'am an audiophile, and the YSP-500 is the best one of them all, producing 5.1 sound that will blow you away. Highly recommended!!! | REVIEW BY ANONYMOUS ON 29 DECEMBER 2008 |
| | | | | | GREAT ALTERNATIVE TO A MULTI SPEAKER SYSTEM - Scores 4/5
It's taken me a while to put together a decent home cinema system but with a girlfriend who isn't that bothered about surround sound, making the case for a proper sound setup was difficult (too many wires!). Listening to Batman Begins on Bluray on my new YSP 500 I'm blown away by how close this is to a full Dolby 5.1 system. It's not 100% perfect but the separation of the sound channels is very clear and make for a much richer film experience. In particular, the splitting of dialogue from music makes an enormous difference to the experience. It's true that the subwoofer isn't amazing but you can get a separate one to add on if you like. For me, however, this is more than acceptable and has already improved my movie-watching experience enormously. I can't wait to try the Xbox 360 on it :-) | REVIEW BY ANONYMOUS ON 05 SEPTEMBER 2008 |
